I am so glad I'm not 13 anymore...

....because this was the conversation that my students were having in form today.

Year 7 boy storms in, sits down, bursts out into tears.
Year 7 gaggle of girls follow him in "Oh my GAWD, did she dump you? Did you get dumped?"
Year 7 boy says "Ya, she dumped me" - bawls.
Year 7 girls "She dumped you for so-and-so - what a bitch!!"
Year 7 boy - "She dumped me, for so-and-so?" Crying gets worse.
Year 7 girls - "Plenty of fish in the sea", "You can do better", "She's not good enough for you", any other random cliche you could ever think of.

Year 7 boy starts to come around, pulls himself together, straightens himself up.
Exit gaggle of Year 7 girls.

Year 7 Dumper Girl comes in with a new group of Year 7s
Year 7 boy "I don't want to talk to you."
Year 7 Ex-GF "Fine." Storms out.
Other Year 7s "Oh c'mon!! Give her a chance! Hear her out!" (this is for real happening in front of me, while I'm seated at my desk).
Year 7 boy - "No! She dumped me!"

Me (without moving a muscle or taking my eyes off the student work I'm marking)- "Year 7s who are not in my form, go away."

Kerfuffle ensues at the door. Year 7s leave.

Year 8 boy walks in with the most hilarious look on his face. Shouts to me "HOW AWKWARD WAS THAT MISS?"
Turns to Year 7 boy "So she dumped you, ya? Rough."
Sits down. Revels in his awesomeness.

Year 9.1 walks in - mocks Year 7 boy for crying
Year 9.2 walks in - punches Year 9.1 for mocking Year 7 boy.
Fight ensues.

All because a Year 7 girl didn't want to hold hands with a Year 7 boy on the schoolyard any longer...

Ahhh to be young and think these things are important.
