Dani, Michelle and Jocelyn do Scotland - Day 1 - Edinburgh

Edinburgh is beautiful. It would be a lot higher on my list of favourite places, if it wasn't for the rain. It rained on and off all day, every day we were in Scotland. Much like winter in England. Simply unacceptable. How does one get on with their day when they can't even dress for the weather? Hot, cold. Wet, dry. Make up your mind Scotland.

Anywho...
Edinburgh is gorgeous - we were pretty exhausted on our first day there from our restless red-eye bus, so I remember very little, but here are some pics of the day's events-

Edinburgh castle from ground level (where there was a really awesome market where you could sample delicious food like Lemon Curd- sounds gross but sooo yummy). We also enjoyed pulled pork and haggis sandwiches. Yum. Yum.

 Edinburgh Castle from up close...

The view of Edinburgh from the Castle in the Sky...
After lunch and shopping for cashmere and tartan we went on 'The Scotch Whiskey Experience'... a really trippy tour where you get into a whiskey barrel and a talking ghost tells you how they make whiskey...

WTF?
Then they show you to the World's Larget Waste of Alcohol Room. Ahem, I mean the World's Largest Fermenting Whiskey Collection. Seriously. Some of the bottles were losing whiskey to the air. NOT COOL! And you get to try a shot of scotch. Lovely way to wake up!!

Bottles with some missing are not drank from, just evaporating slowly over time - BOOZE WASTERS!
We hit the streets again - and found this little gem of a car...
I promptly found the owner of this ferrari, married him and now live blissfully in a palace in Scotland... Oh no, wait, that was just a dream...

Instead we went in search of the Royal McGregor Pub (Jocelyn wanted to see it), found it and enjoyed some Haggis.

This is a Haggis pie. I know what you are thinking - Haggis is various Sheep parts (heart, liver, etc) and oats encased in Sheep's intestine (or maybe you didn't know that and are now officially grossed out with us for eating it), but nevertheless, as our dreamy tour guide the following day said thoughtfully "We are a foolish country, but we're not daft; it wouldn't be our national dish if it didn't taste nice." And taste nice it did! Except the oats gave it a weird texture, and I pulled a really disastrously spastic move that ended up with my shirt and Jocelyn's scarf covered in that gravy stuff and stinking like the high-heavens.
We also had whiskey flavoured deserts! Yum, yum!

Off to rest up for the big hunt for Nessie....
