Dani & Alex Do Holidays in Europe - Day 3 Continued - Tour de Lille

We decided to stop in beautiful Lille to get some grub en route to Bruges. Instead of getting our unreliable-at-best Jenny to direct us to a restaurant, we decided to give her a break and take matters into our own hands. Epic fail. Instead of ending up in a central location with lovely restaurants we ended up on a side-street with a lovely cornerstore and pharmacy. We did, however, manage to find a nice hole-in-the-wall pizza shop that suited our needs just fine (after being turned away by several pubs that were not currently serving, of course). They made us delicious wood-fired pizza that were certainly up to our hungry standards. I tried one with a fried egg on it (like a yokey-fried egg, over-easy styles, baked right into the cheese) and it was actually quite delicious. I figured, when in Rome, right? If eggs are an option on several pizzas here, it must be good!
We were full of food and joy upon leaving Lille (where we toured once again past the fairy-tale cathedral we woke up to escaping England at Christmas- so pretty). We decided the only way out of this loopy-little town was to trust Jenny. Big mistake. Genevieve decided to take us on yet another round-in-circles sightseeing touring and was fairly insistent that we took our car, jumped the bollards and drove our way across the main pedestrian square ("THE MACHINE KNOWS"). We decided not to follow that advice and took a few wrong turns until she recalculated and sorted herself out. Turns out she was pretty mad at us for disobeying her though, which we were unaware of, until she suggested that we head directly down a tram-track, and dangerous maneuver we just barely avoided. We then did about 14 laps of one stretch of road in Lille before we realized that our dear Jen was confused and thought we were in the tunnel in the middle of the road, and not in fact in the outside lanes. Silly Jen! Onwards and upwards though, we found the entrance to said tunnel and sorted ourselves back onto the highway.
Arriving in Bruges, we did about 6 laps of the main round-about, taking the same wrong exit twice before emerging in the centre of town. Driving into the Bruges was very much like driving into a postcard. The beauty of Bruges at night could not be described. We stopped the car and headed into our hostel to ask directions to a parking garage. We ended up not following them, and attempting to drive into various non-car-capable areas of road before finally finding the aforementioned safe parking zone. We said good riddance to Genevieve and were off to enjoy Bruges for a few days.
