Upon arrival in Calais, we were brought to the wrong train station. Turns out the one we needed was a 20 Euro cab ride away. Not speaking very good French and arriving at an empty train station (France is in the middle of a MASSIVE fuel strike) we were greeted by the "Worst Case Scenario Avenger". He came up to us and "broke-down-the-situation-for-us". Basically, his train was cancelled and it would be 5 hours until the next one, and he was having a nervous breakdown. We simply wanted him to help us call a cab from this train station to the next train station and instead we got Bad-News-Beaker telling us we were never going to be able to leave Calais, so we may as well share a car with him and hitch a ride to Paris, or kill ourselves. Essentially those were our options, according to this man.
Fortunately, after putting space between that man and us, we remembered that we already knew there was a train/fuel strike, and we were fully aware we may have to wait extra time for trains.
That did not stop it from sucking though. Espicially when we arrived at the train station to find it was in the middle of NOWHERE and the only food to be had was from a vending machine. This started a trend for us of only eating when we were so ravenous that we would gnaw each other's arms off just to get sustanence, but we eventually made it on a train to Paris, with a bar and food cart, and arrived safely, only a few hours late.
This is how much fun we had in Calais:
