One of our colleagues at work lives in a place called Gillingham which is home to a 'professional' ice hockey team in England, so he very kindly arranged a day for us. He took us to a Sunday Carvery (Sunday roast being an England tradition), which was fantastic and then to a hockey game.
Hockey in England is, umm.. unskilled. To say the least. Very amateur. Ice Hockey is the fastest game on Earth. And one of the most brutally violent team sports. This was not either of those things. I would compare it to Junior B hockey at home, but since they were older it is probably more accurate to compare it to an Old Timers league game. If any of you Canuck boys are looking to live in England for a while, you could likely make the team!
It was very fun to feel like home and watch a real sport (sorry soccer fans, but your sport is lammmee!) and we had seats reserved for us and everything! We got to meet the team at the end of the game (need to get those photos off of my colleague). The leading scorer was obvioulsy imported from Toronto. The biggest treat of all of course, was rink fries! A treat I had certainly been missing (though England has yet to discover Poutine which is a huge let down.)
