Dani does Dover Castle & The Search for the White Cliffs

After dropping our stuff off at our luxurious, penthouse "top flat" (which we paid 20GBP a night for.. unreal!) we headed out to see the sights of Dover.
The cab driver informed us that the ONLY thing worth doing in Dover was having breakfast at Chaplin's. So off we went to find Chaplin's. And despite the fact that they were out of Bailey's for our vacation coffees, it was delicious, as promised.

Everything inside was Charlie Chaplin Themed - it made no sense to us, but it was delightful.
Then we decided to head up the hill to see Dover Castle (a significant landmark from World War 2, as the grounds hosted underground tunnels made for housing those wounded in German-occupied France - they could be brought back to England by sea and taken to the underground hospitals- we toured the tunnels and it was soo cool!) Despite the threatening rain clouds, our day at the castle was beautiful and relaxing.

With Dover Castle under our belts we went in search of the Famous White Cliffs (harder to find in Dover then you'd expect).
We headed down to the ocean shore to guide us.

Typical England, just HAD to rain on us!

Me and the Atlantic!
On the shore, we stumbled upon a drunk man, with crooked eyes who told us a desperately sad story about how he had travelled there to take the ferry across to France, but he only had 15 pounds to his name, so he could not. I was thinking that maybe, had he not bought the beer he would have had the 20 pounds it costs to take the ferry, but decided not to share this with him, in case he was a crazy (which his crooked eyes suggested that he probably was.)

We found the White Cliffs, with the help of a lovely American couple who were also lost, and made our way up. Being that I have a secret fear of falling to my death, the white cliffs hike was my worst nightmare and I wanted nothing more than to go back down and drink with that weirdy on the beach. THAT would have been more safe than scaling the cliffs of Dover where they have provided no rails/protection from ultimate death. Nevertheless, here is a picture of Kari at the top.
On the way back down (thankfully, we all survived), I had an art attack moment and used a piece of chalk from the cliffs to write our favourite word on the ground.
Then we purchased some wine, created a drinking game and passed out in the living room of our penthouse suite dreaming of France...
Jocelyn and I sharing a massive couch in Gramma and Grampa Dover's "Top Flat" - AMAZING!
